Rarely does a VCR tape mess up so bad where you miss out on some video, but DVDs do!

I am about fed up with renting DVDs. It could be my cheap VCR, but since I recently bought a PS2, I decided, next time the DVD stops in the middle of a movie, I will just swith and watch it on the PS2. Well, low and behold, it stops playing at the same damn location on the PS2 as it does on the DVD plyaer

And here I thought it was because I had bought a cheapie DVD player. I have had this happen many a times with the DVDs, enough to be to the point of, when I really want to see a whole movie, I will rent only a VHS tape.

So very sad, that the DVDs scratch so easily. Anyone else out there having this issue with rental tapes?

BTW, 40 Year Old Virgin is pretty damn funny!

I have had that happen alot. Still it doesn't turn me around to want to rent VHS. I stopped VHS rentals years ago and there is no way I am going back. Video stores usually have other copies and I try to get my hands on another and if I can't ATM I am willing to wait a bit more. But to lose the advantages of not only skipping some parts of the commercials almost instantly but to get to a sceen that you like so much with just a few clicks rather than fast fowarding and rewinding till you get it right, no thanx.

Besides the fact that the DVD looks and sounds way much better than a VHS, Many of the Video stores are getting some of the movies only on DVD. They could try to fix the problem, it could cost a few more bucks but I believe it could be beneficial in the long run. I have seen these laminates that can be placed on CDs to avoid the scatching, they are a dollor a piece but these Video stores could probably get them in bulk for cheaper. Not the best solution but any is better than none. They are the ones to lose in the end.

So sorry no VCR for me, only to convert video to DVD.

Part of the problem is that the PS2 is also a cheapie DVD player. In fact, I've found that in general, every other DVD-playing device I own, from the midrange model in the living room to the cheapie in the bedroom to the PC in my den, is more forgiving of scratched disks than my PS2 is. The age of the device seems to be a much bigger factor for the PS2 than for the other devices, as well.

But tapes? Never again, my friend. No unlimited pause, no chapter selection, no top menu, no bonus features.
